Somatic therapy

When talking about it isn’t enough.

You’ve been to traditional talk therapists. “Talk about your traumatic experiences and it will set you free,” they say. Only that hasn’t been your experience. In fact, quite the opposite- talking about it may have even made it worse. Talking about it might feel traumatic in itself. Or, maybe you can talk about it and you feel completely numb.

Trauma shows up in the body in various ways.

Research has shown that when we think about a traumatic event, the part of our brain where language is held, goes offline. Hence why it might be hard to talk about, you may not be able to find the words, or talking about it simply doesn’t feel like it’s getting you anywhere.

Trauma is HELD IN THE BODY. So, in order to heal, we need to drop down into the body and access those parts of us that are stuck in trauma time.

The body remembers.

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based approach to healing trauma. Through a very gentle approach, we help your body to release “stuck” survival responses that are at the root of your symptoms. We help the body complete the self-protective responses of fight, flight, and freeze, in order to restore a sense of goodness and regulation in your nervous system.

NeuroAffective Touch® is another somatic (body-based) therapy, in which we use intentional mindful touch to bring unconscious memories held in the body into awareness, help re-work unconscious behavioral responses, and re-build self-awareness and identity. Through the use of touch, we are able to heal traumas related to attachment, emotional and relational deficits, that cannot be reached through verbal means alone.
